Library Lates: Babel
These are the recordings made during the Language Landscape recordathon at the Library Lates event at the Weston Library on Friday 8th March, 2019. The Library Lates event was co-organised by the Bodleian Libraries and Creative Multilingualism and was designed to showcase and celebrate cultural and linguistic diversity and promote the exhibition Babel: Adventures in Translation.
During the event, Language Landscape challenged visitors to make short recordings in the different languages they spoke to demonstrate the multilingual abilities of Oxford. Many of the recordings are themed around International Women's Day, since this falls on the 8th March every year. In total, 17 recordings were made on the night in 12 different languages: English, French, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Croatian, Irish, Catalan, Cantonese, Turkish, Gujarati and Polish.
